Bornsjön nature reserve is a large area composed of a varied landscape including lakes, farms, forests and older estates. The area is located just southwest of Stockholm and stretches over three municipalities including Salem, Botkyrka and Södertälje. The nature in Bornsjön is typical for this part of Sweden with an old cultivation history, former pastures with oak trees and common hazel, forest of both broad-leaved and coniferous character and manor houses. Many birds are nesting in the area including osprey and black-throated loon.
Accessibility
Bornsjön is easily accessed due to its proximity to Stockholm. Several roads and trails can be used by cyclists and hikers. The area can be reached by car but some roads are closed for car traffic. For people travelling by public transportation, there are several options to enter the nature reserve.
The purpose of the reserve
Bornsjön is one of 4 larger nature areas in the proximity of Stockholm and was established to promote the high recreational, biological and cultural values in the area. Before Bornsjön was resolved as a nature reserve, the areas was highly threatened by exploitation. Today, the reserve is also an important reserve for drinking water and constitutes an important area for several biotopes.

Restrictions for the public
Besides regulations and prohibitions in laws and constitutions it is not allowed to:
- Destroy or damage permanent natural objects or configurations by drilling, picking, blasting, carving, painting or similar.
- Break twigs, damage living and dead trees, damage the flora by for instance digging up herbs, grass, moss or lichens or removing wood living fungi, although it is allowed to pick flowers, berries and edible mushrooms.
- Drive a motorized vehicle on other than designated roads.
- Deliberately disturb the wildlife (for example by climbing trees, stay close to barrows, capture or kill mammals, birds, reptiles or frogs).
- Park a caravan or trailer or make camp for more than two full days at the same location. This restriction does not imply any restraint to the educational work of the Swedish Home Guard. Other exceptions can be made after consultation with the responsible conservation manager.
- Ride elsewhere than on designated roads.
- Rock climbing by using climbing equipment and similar activities.
- Arrange organized events of orienteering, running contests or similar activities without consultation with the responsible conservation manager. For larger events, permit from the County Administration Board is required.
- Practise organized camping activities endure without consultation with the responsible conservation manager.
- Arrange motorized sport events including rally and endure without consultation with the responsible conservation manager.
- Moor or anchor a boat for longer time than two full days on the same location.
- Put up board, poster, sign, advert or similar device with the exception of information included in the management of the nature reserve.
